The Kitchen

Before anything else, I have to give total credit to my lovely wife who easily did 75% of the work in the kitchen. She painted all the cabinets and most of the walls (all i did was the trim) while I was at work, and she even installed the island herself. I put up the shelves, but that's like 20 minutes of work. So all the credit has to go to Sarah... or as she's now calling herself Sarah Villa...

Excuse the mess.. but this is the view from the back door into the kitchen. Everything just looks soooo much nicer than it did when we bought the place...

And this is the new island. What do you think? There's going to be a third shelf up, but it wouldn't level out, so we had to take it down temporarily. And it wasn't me, everything was being held into the wall properly, it was the metal arms of the shelf bracket tilting down slightly...

Having the island (or more appropriately put, the peninsula, as it is actually attached to the wall) gives us so much more counter space, which we were sorely lacking and some more storage space which we definitely needed too.
We also finally got around to stacking the washer and dryer so we can put in a sink this weekend. One small issue though. Because of the staircase above the bathroom, there isn't a whole lot of room to stack them, so this is the best we could do...
Just think thin thoughts... it's actually not that bad, there's more room there than it looks, and we really had no choice as we have to add that sink. Seriously, who has a bathroom with no sink. And there's really no other place in the house to put the washer and dryer...

So there you have it, our new kitchen. Pretty darn nice huh... and all the credit goes to move lovely, handy wife....

I can see the patches in the wall. Did you screw the bracket into solid wood? Is the bracket bent? Can it be shimmed? It's hard to advise from so far away. -Venice Dad.
